DEEPENING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT USING KOHONEN'S SELF-ORGANIZATION MAPS

On July 25-27, 2023, teachers and graduate students of the Department of Marketing became participants in the professional development program "Self-organizational maps of Kohonen in the work of a scientist."

The speaker of the events was Olena ZARUTSKA - doctor of economic sciences, associate professor; Head of the Finance, Banking and Insurance Department of the University of Customs and Finance (Dnipro).

During the seminars, the following issues were considered:

  1. Kohonen's method of self-organizing maps, its advantages and limitations.
  2. ViscoverySOMine software features.
  3. Requirements for a group of indicators. Algorithm for evaluation of input data.
  4. Topology of the map and interpretation of the distribution of indicator values.
  5. Evaluation of patterns of homogeneous groups.
  6. Study of changes in homogeneous groups in dynamics.
  7. Trajectories of objects on the map, mass migrations and research into their causes.
  8. Three-level analysis of results at the aggregated, comparative and specific level.
  9. Prospects for the use of Kohonen maps in research.

The conducted activities made it possible to deepen knowledge in terms of scientific activity organization of  using Kohonen's self-organizing maps.

MARKETING IN DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT: A NEW TEXTBOOK BY TEACHERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING

A new English-language edition of the textbook "Marketing in Digital Environment" has been published. A team of the tireless collective of the Department of Marketing prepared its content.

The textbook contains seven important chapters on the basics of e-business, content and digital marketing, and the creation and promotion of web resources, supported by practical cases and examples.

Associate Professor of the Department Nataliia LETUNOVSKA, and Ph.D. student Liilia KHOMENKO, edited this publication. We also thank our student Yana Shevchenko for creating an original cover for this publication.

NEW KNOWLEDGE IN RELATED FIELDS OF HUMAN HEALTH: SEMINAR ON THE FEATURES OF THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL ON VISUAL PERCEPTION

Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing Nataliia Letunovska participated in a scientific seminar organized by the Institute of Public Health of the University of Liverpool. It was conducted by Ph.D. Senior Lecturer Alexis Makin, a specialist in the field of neuro research, which is devoted to the analysis of the work of the human brain about its perception of visual symmetry under the influence of various factors.

In particular, at this seminar, attention was paid to the effect of alcohol consumption on the visual perception of information by the brain. The research results caused lively interest on the part of the audience and an active discussion.

Participation in this event provided invaluable experience and inspiration for conducting research in related fields of activity and formed the awareness that health science has an unlimited range of questions that scientists and practitioners still have to solve.

SUCCESSFUL PASSING OF THE ECL INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE TEST

Recently, PhD, assistant of the department of marketing Yevheniia ZIABINA and PhD student Liliia KHOMENKO successfully passed the ECL international language test for knowledge of the English language at the B2 level.

PRINCIPLES OF PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES OF GREEN CAMPUSES IMPLEMENTATION IN THE EU

The Department of Marketing continues to implement Jean Monet's project "Green Campus Strategies: EU Experience for Ukrainian Universities" (2022-2025, 101085427 — GCAM — ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH) and research innovative practices of building university campuses based on the principles of sustainable environmental balanced development.

On May 30, 2023, as part of the course "EU Cohesion Policy: Green Campus Strategies for Sustainable Development", Professor Tetyana Vasilieva and Doctor of Economics, Professor Olena Chygryn held an intensive webinar dedicated to the key approaches and principles of the formation and development of green academic campuses. The main emphasis of the event was the actualisation of social and environmental responsibility and the building of a sustainable way of thinking.

The online meeting was attended by more than 80 bachelor's and master's students majoring in "Marketing", "Management", "Economics and Business", "Finance and Entrepreneurship" at Sumy State University and Poltava University of Economics and Trade.

Speakers of the Faculty of Economics spoke about the goals and principles of forming green campuses, their role in mitigating climate change, and modern practices of organising green campuses.

Using the examples of the Technical University (Košice, Slovakia) and the Czech University of Natural Sciences (Prague, Czech Republic), the audience discussed successful examples of the implementation of green campus practices.

SEMINAR ON PRODUCTIVITY IN MARKETING AND SUSTAINABLE AND HEALTHY APPROACHES TO BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Members of the Jean Monnet project team "Healthy Economy and Policy: European Values for Ukraine", Nataliia Letunovska and Anna Rosokhata, started their internship at the University of Liverpool (United Kingdom).

At the beginning of July, several meetings were held with fellow scientists from the Institute of Public Health and the School of Management.

Nataliia and Anna also attended a lecture by Dr. Ofer Mintz, Head of the Department of Marketing at the Business School of the University of Technology Sydney (Australia) on the role of marketing during the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of effective marketing strategies, focusing on its productivity.

Nataliia and Anna presented their scientific research on sustainable marketing, market research of healthy products, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

It is appropriate to note that these issues are of interest and are being actively researched; therefore, the exchange of experience and collaboration between Ukraine and the United Kingdom are relevant and of mutual interest.

SCIENTIFIC INTERNSHIP AT THE SILESIAN UNIVERSITY

As part of the International Interdisciplinary Summer School "Intragen", Olena Chygryn began a scientific internship at the University of Silesia (Gliwice, Poland). The internship topic is "Smart Public Space in Prosumer Energy Transition".

During the ten days of the intensive program, 30 participants from universities from 7 countries will attend 60 hours of lectures, seminars, laboratory exercises and familiarisation visits. A rich curriculum dedicated to energy management in a sustainable public space was accompanied by classes in Polish culture and language, visits to industry and community activities.

The leading topics of the school are intelligent technologies in prosumer energy. The internship program covers various thematic areas, in particular: renewable energy technologies, the application of materials of the future, the operation of smart urban space, architectural innovations and much more.

VALUABLE KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN METHODS OF ANALYSIS

On June 19, 2023, the scientific festival "Green energy towards the Carbon-free economy: the best EU practices" took place.

The main speakers of the event were the head of the Department of Marketing, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Oleksiy LYULOV and Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Tetyana PIMONENKO.

They talked about the tools and principles of bibliometric analysis, the features of hypothesis testing and the application of the ANOVA statistical method using STATA software.

The festival attracted a wide range of participants from different places, thanks to which they actively interacted with the speakers and asked questions during the discussion.

The event allowed to exchange of experience between the participants and provided the participants with valuable knowledge about modern analytical methods used in scientific work.

On June 30, 2023, students and PhD students of the Department of Marketing became participants in virtual mobility on the topic "Excel as an analytical tool for conducting scientific research."

The speaker of the event was Ulyana KOLOMIETS, PhD candidate, CERGE-EI, Charles University (Czech Republic).

During the seminar, the following issues were considered:

  1. work with a large volume of data, filtering and sorting;
  2. graphs;
  3. general rule for writing formulas and using functions;
  4. autofill;
  5. tables and smart tables.
The event made it possible to deepen knowledge about the use of Excel to improve the skills of writing scientific papers.
