EUROPEAN STANDARDS AND BEST PRACTICES OF GREEN CAMPUSES
European standards and best practices of green campuses aim for environmental sustainability and create favourable conditions for learning and working. This and many other fascinating questions were discussed at a lecture by Yuriy Bilan, professor of the department of marketing at Sumy State University and Rzeszów University of Technology, Poland, which took place on March 5, 2024, for students and postgraduates of the department of marketing.
The following main issues were discussed in the lecture:
- Energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources.
- Use of environmentally friendly materials.
- Adherence to green building standards (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
- Environmental education and student involvement.
These standards and practices c1ontribute not only to reducing the environmental impact of universities but also to the formation of conscious environmental behaviour among students and employees.
The event provided an opportunity for students to learn about the latest achievements and practices in the field of sustainable development and their application in universities. A discussion and a question-and-answer session with Yuriy Bilan followed the lecture.
THE INFLUENCE OF GREEN CAMPUSES ON THE FORMATION OF CONSCIOUS CITIZENSHIP IN DIFFERENT SPHERES OF SOCIAL LIFE
On February 6, 2024, masters of the "Marketing" speciality joined the webinar by Olena Chygrin, devoted to studying the impact of green campuses on the formation of conscious citizenship in various spheres of public life.
The main issues discussed at the meeting were the following:
- formation of environmental awareness, in particular, how green campuses contribute to raising students' awareness of the importance of environmental protection. Students were interested in potential programs for carbon footprint reduction, waste recycling and energy conservation. Such activities help shape environmentally conscious behaviour that influences their future decisions in various areas of life, from consumption to participation in social initiatives;
- the development of public activity, within the framework of which issues of the development of civic activity among young people were discussed. Involvement in environmental projects at the university level encourages students to actively participate in local initiatives and implement sustainable practices in their communities. It helps develop leadership qualities and increases responsibility for the environment;
- іntegration of sustainable solutions into professional life. The listeners discussed the issue of attracting graduates of green campuses who already have experience in implementing environmental initiatives and more often integrate the principles of sustainable development into their professional activities;
- social justice. Students agreed that through green campus programs, students gain knowledge about the importance of environmental and social justice. It promotes the development of active citizenship on social issues such as climate change, inequality in access to resources and support for vulnerable populations.
The participants of the meeting agreed on future events aimed at the implementation of student initiatives.
